Adamie Niviaxie
Adamie Niviaxie (1925– ) is an Inuit sculptor and carver born in Inukjuak, Nunavik, Quebec, who primarily produced animals carved of stone. Adamie comes from a family of artists and makers. His father was a woodworker who built boats in Kuujjuarapik. His siblings Samwillie Niviaxie, Jeremiah Niviaxie, Davidee Niviaxie, and Nellie Nastapoka are all involved in the arts and crafts industry in Inukjuak. Further, his brothers Silassie Niviaxie and Joseph Niviaxie are carvers in Kuujjuarapik.
Adamie has been included in exhibitions such as Early Masterpieces of Inuit Sculpture at Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto in 1991, Eskimo Sculpture at Winnipeg Art Gallery in 1967, and L’art Inuit (presented by l’Iglou Art Esquimau, Douai) at Palais de l’europe, le Touquet, in 1991. His work is included in collections at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, the British Museum, London, UK, and the Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City.
