Angotigolu Teevee

1910–1967

Angotigolu Teevee, ᐊᒍᑎᕈᓗ ᑎᕕ, (1910–1967) was an Inuit graphic artist who lived and worked in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut. She mainly produced prints and drawings depicting animals, spirits, and humans inspired by Inuit culture, stories, and mythologies. Over the course of her life, she produced over 380 prints, most of which were developed from her original drawings. Her brother Tikituk Qinnayuak and her husband, Jamasie Teevee, were both artists. Furthermore, her children Anirnik Ragee, Parnee Peter, Nicotai Simigak, and Simeonie Teevee are sculptors working in Kinngait.

Angotigolu’s prints were featured in the Annual Cape Dorset Print Collection in 1961, 1964/65, and 1966. They have been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and parts of Europe, and they are held in the permanent collections at the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Vaughan, the Glenbow Museum, Calgary, and the Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver, among others.
