Zbigniew Blazeje
1942–2004
Zbigniew Blazeje (1942–2004) was a Canadian visual artist. Born in Barnaul, USSR, he came to Canada by way of Iran, India, and the United States. Blazeje created kinetic audio installations, light-absorbing and reflecting sculptures that involved moving parts, optical effects, and electronic music.
Blazeje studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Ontario College of Art. His classmates included John-Mills Cockell, Pauline Oliveros, Ann Southam, John Beckwith, R. Murray Schafer. He was also an instructor at the Ontario College of Art and City College of New York.
Blazeje was the youngest artist, at 23-year-old, to receive a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario. He has exhibited at numerous institutions across Canada, including the National Gallery of Canada, Winnipeg Art Gallery, and McKenzie Art Gallery.
Blazeje created a commissioned structural sculpture at the York University in 1972.
