(–1995)
Samisa Passauralu Ivilla (1924–1995) was an Inuit sculptor born in Puvirnituq, Quebec. Known primarily for his sculptures, he was already an accomplished carver when he sold his first piece to James Houston in 1950. He was a central figure in establishing carving as a practice in Puvirnituq. He stopped work as a carver in 1972 due to the lack of suitable stone, working as superintendent for the local school instead.
His work has found their place within the holdings of institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and the curated Schumiatcher Collection at the University of Regina.
