Russell Drisch

1944–

Russell L. Drisch (1944– ) is an American photographer and painter who resided in Buffalo, NY, during the seventies and eighties. Originally an actor, Drisch moved to Buffalo to play two seasons at Studio Arena Theater. During this time, his interest in photography overcame his love for theater. He left acting and opened Drisch Photography Studio and Gallery West. His photography focuses on still lives of mainly flowers and vegetables against a white or gray background. Drisch’s photography is also known for hand-tinting black & white photographs/gelatin silver prints with very pale washes of red, yellow, and cyan.

In 1989, Drisch was invited to contribute to the Brooklyn Museum’s Grand Lobby installation series. The outcome was the breathtaking triptych mural entitled Gateway. This piece, evoking the essence of spring, immersed spectators in the alluring atmosphere of a verdant garden. Transforming the Grand Lobby of the Brooklyn Museum, the mural became a focal point, infusing the space with the irresistible charm and romanticism of nature’s vibrant beauty. Drisch’s works have been exhibited in New York and Toronto and published in Time and Buffalo Magazines
