Ruby A. Oonark
Ruby A. Oonark (1947–2013), also known as Ruby Arngna’naaq, was a printmaker, interpreter, and writer from Qamani'tuaq (Baker Lake), Nunavut, who later moved to Ottawa, Ontario.
The daughter of graphic artist Myra Kukiiyaut, Ruby was a founding member of the Sanavik Inuit Co-operative and was one of the Co-operative’s first printmaking managers and art directors. Using her knowledge of both English and Inuktitut, she served as an interpreter for prolific artist Jesse Oonark, and she supported other art-based projects, such as Art and Cold Cash Collective, which sought to connect with the community in Quamani’tuaq. Ruby also produced a number of programs for the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation and worked in the Inuit cultural sector as a political activist and arts representative.
