Paul Bernard Toman
Paul Bernard Toman (1947– ) is an artist working across photography, pottery, printmaking, and sculpture. Born in Nairobi, Kenya, he immigrated to Canada in 1956. He attended Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute in Toronto from 1962 to 1966 where he studied vocational art. He also attended the Ontario College of Art in Toronto from 1969 to 1973 where he obtained a diploma in visual arts.
Following his graduation from the Ontario College of Art, he was an apprentice under sculptor Nobby Kubota, and in 1974, he was awarded first place in Sculpture and Ceramics at the Royal Ontario Museum. His work is held in the collections at public institutions including the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre at Queen’s University, Kingston, among others.
