Ningeoseak Pudlat

1937–

Ningeoseak Pudlat (1937– ) is an Inuit sculptor and graphic artist born on Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin Island), Nunavut. He is known for sculpting stylized carvings that depict traditional arctic life. In addition to his carving, Ningeoseak worked in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, as a stonecutter and printmaker at the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative (now Kinngait Studios). Between 1977 and 1980 Ningeoseak produced 14 prints. His son Quvianaqtuk Pudlat is also a sculptor and graphic artist in Kinngait.

Ningeoseak’s work has been featured in exhibitions in Canada and abroad, such as We Lived by Animals/Nous Vivions des Animaux, a travelling exhibition on view from 1975–1979 organized by the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in cooperation with the Department of External Affairs. Further, his prints and drawings are held in a number of museum collections, including the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, the Red Deer and District Museum and Archives, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Inuit Cultural Institute, Kangiqliniq (Rankin Inlet), among others.
