Nicole Collins
Nicole Collins (1962– ) is a contemporary Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto.
Collins received her B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Guelph in 1988, and her Master of Visual Studies in 2009 from the University of Toronto.
Collins’ practice explores the notion of time, as well as the effects of accumulation, force and heat on visceral materials. She works primarily through the medium of painting, but also with installations, interventions, video, sound, and multiples.
Since the beginning of her artistic career in the 1990s, Collins’ work has been shown internationally in the United States, Japan, Switzerland, and England. Within Canada, notable solo exhibitions of Collins’ work have been featured at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery (2013), the Art Gallery of Ontario (2013).
Collins frequently collaborates with her husband, Michael Davidson, who is also a practicing artist. Collins and Davidson created an art gallery in their home living room in Toronto. Collins currently serves as Associate Professor of Material and Visual Culture in the Drawing & Painting program at OCAD University in Toronto.
