Mary Pitseolak
(1931–)
Mary Pitseolak (1931– ), also known as Peeteekotee, is a sculptor and a graphic artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut. Mary is from a family of artists. Her father, Peter Pitseolak, was a writer, historian, and photographer, and her mother, Aggeok Pitseolak, was a graphic artist. Two of her sisters were also graphic artists.
Mary’s prints were included in the Annual Cape Dorset Print Collections in 1961 and 1963. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and Europe and is held in a number of public collections, including at the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, the Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, among others.
