Lucie Angalakte Mapsalak (attributed to)

1931–

Lucie Angalakte Mapsalak (1931– ) is a sculptor from Naujatt (Repulse Bay), Nunavut. The subjects of Lucie’s sculptures include animals, familial relationships, igloos, and daily activities, such as hunting. Her carvings use a range of materials which include stone, bone, ivory, and wood. In some cases, she also repurposes discarded objects to create colourful inlayed details, such as glass eyes.

Her work has been included in exhibitions across Canada and internationally, including Small Worlds: Inuit Miniature Carving on view at the Winnipeg Art Gallery from 2019 to 2020. Her work can also be found in public and private collections at the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Toronto Dominion Bank Collection, the Remai Modern, Saskatoon, and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton, among many others.
