Louis Oksokitok

1926–2003

Louis Oksokitotk (1926­–2003) was an Inuit sculptor from Naujaat (Repulse Bay), Nunavut. He created his figures by carving them from stone, as well as ivory and wood.

His work has been exhibited across Canada and the United States, including in ItuKiagatta! Inuit Sculpture, an exhibition hosted at the National Museum of the American Indian George Gustav Heye Centre, New York, from 2006 to 2007.  Further, Louis’ carvings can be found in public and private collections at the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, the Toronto Dominion Bank, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Inuit Cultural Centre, Kangiqtiniq (Rankin Inlet), and the Canadian Guild of Crafts Quebec, Montreal, among others.
