Kelly Clark
Kelly Clark (1935–1995), was a Canadian painter born and raised in St. Vital, Manitoba. Clark was encouraged to pursue the arts by his mother, who was a gifted artist in her own right and took classes at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Clark’s mother also introduced him to the artwork of the Canadian Group of Seven. Clark received his diploma in Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba’s School of Art in 1958, where he studied under George Swinton, Richard Williams, Robert Bruce, and Robert Nelson. After receiving his diploma, Clark continued to pursue art in London, England.
Later in his career, Clark was the Graphics editor of Omphalos, Winnipeg’s underground newspaper, and Art Director of Canadian Dimension magazine. He returned to painting in the mid-1970s but never achieved popular success before his death from cancer.
Clark won several prizes at Winnipeg shows and received a Canada Council grant for travel in England in 1960.
