Bruce Muir

1953–

Bruce Muir (1953– ) is a Canadian sea and wildlife painter who was born in Vancouver, BC, and grew up along the Strait of Georgia.

Having grown up around nature, Muir is a natural outdoorsman with a deep knowledge of the land and the animals that inhabit it. From the age of ten, Muir’s father would take him on coastal boating trips. It was on these trips that Muir began to study whaleS. He furthered this knowledge as a student of coastal ecology and through his years spent in forestry, fishing, and boating.

Muir began painting whales and other wildlife scenes after a solo fishing trip where an orca whale surfaced dangerously close to his boat. Ever since, he has been creating scenes that focus on the simple moments of daily animal life. His paintings and prints have been exhibited across North America and are held in numerous public and private collections. In 1990, one of Muir’s painting was used on the Canadian Sport Fishing License stamp, and, in 2000, he was named the artist of the year by the BC Wildlife Federation.
