Brian Hoxha
Brian Hoxha (1958– ) is a Toronto-based painter, printmaker, and educator. His work, in which he uses mainly watercolour and oil paints, focuses on the beauty and tranquility of the natural world. He is often inspired by sweeping landscapes, leading him to travel to and work on location in places such as northern Ontario, Western Canada, Newfoundland, and Montana. Hoxha teaches at multiple institutions, including the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and the Toronto School of Art.
Though working on-location for his paintings, Hoxha also has a studio-based practice which includes the translation of his painted works into lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts. He graduated from the Fine Arts program at the Ontario College of Art in 1984 and completed the fifth-year printmaking program the following year from the same institution. Hoxha has been teaching at the Toronto School of Art since 2004, alongside more recent appointments teaching various combinations of watercolour and printmaking at the AGO, the Granite Club, and at Northern Secondary School in the Toronto District School Board.
He has been a long-time member of the artist-run centre Open Studio and is currently represented by Nouveau Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan, as well as by a variety of arts consultants in Toronto, Ontario.
