Tumira Ashoona
(1943–)
Tumira Ashoona (1943– ) is an Inuit artist and printmaker from Kinngait (Cape Dorset). Her work includes Walrus (1964), a stonecut print depicting a walrus with intricate etchings depicting the fur. She was married to Ottochie Ashoona, son of Pitseolak Ashoona.
Past exhibitions of Tumira’s work include Cape Dorset Printmaking 1959-1989 at McMichael Canadian Collection, Images of the Inuit: from the Simon Fraser Collection, Simon Fraser University, and The Inuit Print/L’estampe Inuit, The Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. Additionally, his work is in the collections of Art Gallery York University, Simon Fraser Gallery, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
