Judith Currelly
Judith Currelly is a Canadian painter and printmaker. She was born in Toronto where she studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD). She later moved to British Columbia and attend the University of Victoria. Her artwork focuses on scenes of Northern British Columbia and the Yukon, inspired by years of working as a commercial bush plane pilot in those areas.
She depicts her scenes in a simplified style, using a limited colour palette. She employs experiments with texture and paint application techniques, such as scraping and staining, to add tactile elements to her work. The content of her artwork consists of geological formations, people, and animals, and it often evokes a mystical, haunting atmosphere while maintaining a sense of narrative.
Currelly has exhibited her work extensively, and it has been collected into the Canada Council Art Bank and the Governor General’s Heritage Collection.
