Fred Franzen

Fred Franzen (1940s– ) is a German Toronto-based post-war painter who lived through the war in Germany. Franzen creates works that do not fall within a specific artistic movement or context. His paintings are strikingly flattened, intertwining and nesting with one another. His color palette leans towards tonal variations, particularly light grays and pastel colors. Franzen’s subject matter is often landscapes, encompassing elements such as rocks, trees, sky, and glimpses of the sea.
