1972–

Eleni H. Bakopoulos (1972– ) is a Canadian artist born in Toronto, Ontario, and based in Guelph, Ontario. She is interested in the interplay between photography, film, and painting. Her work is characterised by a dialogue between the old and the new, an atmosphere of nostalgic affection for art history, and a desire to explore the matter from which art is constructed.

Bakopoulos studied at the University of Guelph and York University. She was nominated for the International Discovery Award at Les Rencontres d’Arles Photography Festival in France in 2006, and she obtained a silver medal in photography at the V Games of the Francophonie in Niger for Team Canada in 2005. Further, her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton, the Olympic Winter Games, Turin, Italy, and the Rosella Junck Gallery, Berlin. In addition to her studio practice, she is also an arts administrator and art instructor. Formerly the Director of Gallery Connexion, an artist-run centre in Fredericton, Bakopoulos launched Gritt Gallery in 2019, a space that showcases her work and offers art workshops in downtown Guelph.
