Claude Guertin
Claude Guertin (1953–2009) was a Canadian painter who held and possessed both law and visual arts degrees from Laval University. Although he practiced law, his true dedication resided in painting and the arts. He created artworks for his family and taught Business Law at Laval University's Faculty of Business Administration and College Merici.
Around 1985, Guertin began actively immersing himself in painting, drawing inspiration from his admiration for African art and the works of prominent painters like Matisse and Picasso. His artistic style aligned with the spirited essence of new figuration, characterized by the incorporation of raw materials, geometric structures, vibrant colors, and vigorous brushwork that conveyed a profound sense of expression.
Guertin’s artwork has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions at galleries across Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Manchester (New Hampshire), and Boston. Guertin passed away in 2009 at the age of 56.
